Clinician for General Consideration

Summary :                                                   

Provides diagnostic evaluations and psychotherapeutic treatment services to children, adolescents and adults in individual, family, couple, and group therapy; provides consultation and educational services to community groups and agencies in a manner which respects diversity.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Provides direct clinical treatment to adults, children, and adolescents as represented in the caseload through:

     - diagnostic evaluations and screenings

     - crisis/emergency assessment and intervention

     - treatment planning and assessment

     - individual, group, couple and family therapy

  1. Participates in interdisciplinary diagnostic treatment and planning conferences.
  2. Consults with area schools, doctors, individuals, and other social service agencies, insurance providers and hospital networks regarding clients, client services and case management.
  3. Maintains client records and administrative records according to Center policy.
  4. Maintains unit productivity standard according to collective bargaining agreement.
  5. Attends administrative staff meetings as required.
  6. Attends in-service education, clinical supervision and professional meetings as required.
  7. Perform related duties as assigned.
  8. If Clinician IV may provide clinical supervision of staff or Utilization Review.

1. Clinical Team (MR Outpatient):   

  • Coordinate and develop treatment plans per department of Mental Retardation ISP or IEP regulators as required.
  • Provide therapy and/or crisis assessment and planning in the community as required by the DMR contract

2. Emergency Services:

  • May supervise paraprofessional staff activities during the shift. This includes assigning duties and training.
  • Services may be provided off site in the community.
  • Clinician participates in the therapeutic milieu setting.

3. CRS Team:

  • Provide Community Rehabilitation Support Services as described in OP/CRS contract (engagement services, medication assistance, support and rehabilitative services.)
  • May provide services in the community as described in the OP/CRS contract.

4. Early Intervention Services:

  • Serves infants and toddlers, ages birth to three years (0-3), who have been diagnosed with development delays of 30% or greater.
  • The program emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach and employs OTs, PTs, SLPs, medical staff, nutritionists, social workers and developmental specialists.

5. Adult Day Treatment, BUDD, Lipton Academy:

  • Maintain program’s therapeutic milieu through behavior management techniques and monitoring of client safety.

6. Home Based Services, Flex Clinical staff, MOVA, Child Latin American Clinicians

  • Clinicians provide services to clients in the client’s home or in a community setting;
  • Clinicians provide indirect case management services, make frequent collateral contacts and hold regular case conferences on cases.

7. School Based Services, Preschool Services

  • Clinicians provide services to children in the school setting;
  • Clinicians meet regularly with school staff and parents to coordinate cases.

8. Youth Mobile Crisis

  • Conducts crisis assessments that include a mental status exam, assessment of crisis precipitants, behavioral assessment, strengths and resources of youth and family, risk/safety assessment, and bio-psycho-social assessment.
  • Write treatment plans including client’s strengths with behaviorally based goals and objectives with input of appropriate family members. Document progress of goals and objectives in progress notes.
  • Deliver a comprehensive crisis focused services to youth and families.
  • Coordinate follow-up services with community providers utilizing a wrap around approach to services.
  • Be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team meetings and case discussions. Recognize and seek consultation as needed. Develop a training plan to enhance professional growth.
  • Provide consultation and direction to family partners/paraprofessionals in the provision of support and referral activities.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.



Competency :                                               

  1. Ability to perform diagnostic and risk assessments using current accepted tools and practices to determine appropriate level of care.
  2. Can develop and implement treatment plans which are behaviorally oriented measurable and appropriate for the identified level of care.
  3. Able to effectively implement the P.A. and U.M. process and advocate for optimal client care.
  4. Clinical expertise specific to the target population with an ability to engage clients effectively and work with other professionals and organizations.
  5. Must be able to pass a CORI background check


Education and/or Experience :                                          

  • Grade 6: Clinician II: Bachelor's degree required. Degree in psychology, social work or related field preferred
  • Grade 7: Clinician III - Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field. License to practice in the State of Massachusetts and/or be reimbursable for services by third party insurance. Experience in the area of practice is desirable.
  • Grade 8: Clinician IV - LICSW or Licensed Psychologist in the State of Massachusetts. Experience in the area of practice necessary.
