Highland Grace House day program is specifically for girls who seek long-term recovery from their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.


Highland Grace House is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is licensed for 15 girls. Girls must be between 13 and 17 years of age. The placement is voluntary and family involvement is mandatory; the use of addictive medications is prohibited.


Highland Grace House is staffed by a team of professionals that include: A Program Director, an Educational Coordinator, 2 Master's-level Clinicians, an Aftercare Coordinator, and Rehab Counselors. On-site staffing is provided 24-hours per day, 7 days per week by residential counselors.


On-site services include:

  • Academic instruction.
  • Group therapy.
  • Psychoeducational groups, such as substance abuse prevention, relapse prevention skills, health education, and social skills development.

Attendance in group is mandatory and is a major part of the recovery process.


  • Maintain close supervision of clients
  • Monitor clients activities of daily living
  • Monitor clients daily chores
  • Assist with intake inventory of clothing, complete client search and assist them in settling into their space
  • Assist other staff in group activities in and outside of the program
  • Client transportation to daily community activities (YWCA, self-help meetings, etc)
  • Daily documentation, including progress notes and communication log
  • May also include additional paperwork as necessary
  • Ability/interest in running groups of various topics
  • Assist clients with crisis management
  • Maintaining upkeep/organization of the house along with other staff and clients
  • Participate in extra activities such as grocery shopping/carrying groceries into the kitchen, laundry to include carrying to and from washer/dryer, and other moderate housekeeping duties
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and trainings


  • Grade 5: Residential Counselor I: HSD/GED/HiSet required with at least (1) year's experience working with adolescent girls 
  • Grade 6: Residential Counselor II: Bachelor's degree required; degree in Social Work preferred (or related substance abuse field)
  • Must be able to attend monthly staff meetings and other trainings as mandated by CHL and DPH.
  • Current valid US-issued drivers license and ability to provide registered, inspected and insured automobile for work related purposes, including transporting clients in your own vehicle or company vehicle 
  • Must be able to pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Background Check)  and a DCF/CPS (Department of Families Adam Walsh/Child Protective Services background check)
