Relief Residential Counselor - Safe Havens

 Safe Havens: This program provides transitional housing and supports for homeless individuals who have a mental illness. Most of these adults also have a substance abuse disorder.


The program is fully funded by the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Rehabilitation services are available on site. All referrals are made through Community Healthlink’s Homeless Outreach and Advocacy project (HOAP).





Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop respectful interpersonal relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skill
  • Assist with intake processes.
  • Provide supervision for clients while on unit.
  • Transport clients to and from appointments as required.
  • Assist clients and HOAP case managers with researching placement and benefit options
  • Assist clients and HOAP case managers with applying for and securing housing and benefits
  • Assist with and contribute to multi-disciplinary planning.
  • Assist in the care and treatment of substance abuse disorders.
  • Run daily groups that are related to substance abuse recovery and accompany clients to meetings within the community.
  • Working with residents to maintain the residence on a daily basis including chores, grocery shopping/carrying groceries into the kitchen, bedroom upkeep, laundry to include carrying to and from washer/dryer, yard work, and other moderate housekeeping duties.
  • Must be able pass required trainings including Medication Administration Program (MAP), CPR and First Aid



  • Grade 5: Residential Counselor I - HSD/HiSet/GED required, associates degree preferred.
  • Grade 6 :Residential Counselor II - Bachelor's degree required; degree and/or coursework in social work, counseling, psychology or related field preferred. 
  • Current valid U.S. issued driver's license and ability to provide registered, inspected and insured automobile for work related purposes including transporting clients in your own vehicle 
  • Ability to work weekends is a MUST
  • Desire to serve others required.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, ability to work independently, and ability to contribute to team objectives required.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in social services and/or working with program's population.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
