    Come join a friendly and diverse clinical team that provides quality care! Community Healthlink (CHL) is looking for a part-time (15 hrs/wk) Residential Counselor in Worcester.


    Behavioral Health Addiction Urgent Care (BHAUC) is a center for individuals suffering from substance use disorder and mental illness. The program is a gateway to getting clients in needed treatment for addiction and/or mental crisis by providing an evaluation, bed search and support from our team. Behavioral Health Addiction Urgent Care is an exciting, dynamic environment in which all members of the multidisciplinary team work together to ensure the best outcomes for our clients.     As a residential counselor in Behavioral Health Addiction Urgent Care you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assess needs and determine level of care for individuals seeking addiction services.  Assisting clients will eliminate obstacles that prevent treatment and advocate for placement when needed.  Residential Counselors support clients by helping them navigate through admissions into Community Healthlink’s Substance Abuse Continuum or elsewhere throughout the state.   


    • Assist with the client admission process by completing all documentation accurately. 
    • Searches all client belongings for contraband. 
    • Orients clients to the unit and to the CHL substance abuse/Detox rules. 
    • Provides coverage to the front desk when needed.
    • Routinely monitors client location and condition every hour during all three shifts. 
    • Directs clients to assigned groups and/or to assigned chores. 
    • Wakes clients in a respectful manner every morning as they request that the client get ready for breakfast. 
    • Ensures that clients maintain their respective personal areas in a clean and safe manner. 
    • RC’s routinely check on the general condition of the unit and intervene when necessary.
    • Facilitate groups and/or provide support to staff facilitating. 
    • To facilitate the continuous provision of safe and high-quality care, the Residential Counselor documents relevant information onto appropriate logs and boards, participates in daily team huddles, notifies the supervisor of any identified problem or deficiency on the unit, and answers the telephone in a professional manner.
    • Maintain unit supplies (linen, personal hygiene articles, etc.).
    • All RC’s are to participate in facilities management. (laundry, trash, restrooms/showers, group rooms and the general condition of the unit)
    • Respectfully confronts clients displaying disruptive or “active” behavior and introduces the client to appropriate coping strategies. 
    • Articulates risk of relapse to clients considering leaving against medical advice (AMA) and attempts to resolve their “reasons for leaving”.
    • Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor(s) 


    • Grade 5: Residential Counselor I:HSD/HiSet/GED or Associates degree required

    • Grade 6: Residential Counselor II: Bachelor's degree required; degree and/or coursework in social work, counseling, psychology or related field preferred. Will consider Bachelor's degree in non-related field with human services experience.

    • Experience working with programs population preferred
    • Recovery Coach Training and Certification or are eligible to complete the training and certification process.
    • Certification in addictions counseling or experience in the substance abuse field preferred
    • Knowledge of Massachusetts continuum of care for substance abuse and the 12 step model preferred
    • Understanding of addiction and recovery      
    • All Bilingual candidates are strongly urged to apply

    • Must be able to pass a CORI background check
